ICW to Beaufort, NC, Staying Put for a Bit

We had two easy days of motorsailing over the weekend. On Saturday night, we found a quiet anchorage in Adams Creek where we enjoyed a vibrant sunset one minute and a blood-orange super moon rising the next. During the day, there were quite a few other boats headed down the Intra Coastal Waterway (ICW), and it was entertaining to watch the different vessels, from duck hunters to sport fisherman to cruisers like us. For a brief while, we were accompanied by a pod of dolphins swimming and leaping alongside Sans Souci!

Our last night in Belhaven, NC, led us to a cozy farm-to-fork restaurant serving all local foods.

We arrived in Beaufort, NC, early enough on Sunday afternoon to get the holding tank pumped out and take hot showers and a walk through this quaint seaside town. Brunch at Beaufort Grocery (apparently NOT a grocery store) was amazing — a grilled chicken wrap with jicama slaw, sugar-cinnamon sweet potato fries, and buttermilk pancakes, as well as great people watching. We are docked at Homer Smith’s Docks & Marina, where we have clean showers, free laundry, great boat neighbors, and use of a courtesy car on a first-come, first-served basis for running errands. We are going to stay here for a couple of weeks to work, rest and explore. I (Sylvia) need to run over to a nearby town for bloodwork (ongoing medical stuff) and should probably try to get my annual vaccinations (flu and Covid), since I am overdue. Maybe a massage? Yes, please.
