New London to Old Saybrook

Old Saybrook Light

There’s only so much ferry wake one can take before one needs to relocate. New London gets about 2 ferries per hour between 6 AM and 11 PM, causing raucous rocking every time they pass. We absolutely needed to get out of there. So, with new autopilot drive installed and configured, we set out this afternoon from New London to Old Saybrook, CT. It was another motor sail into the very shifty wind, but we covered the distance in several hours and are now comfortably on a free mooring in North Cove.

Relaxing with a working autopilot

The autopilot performed flawlessly, much to our relief. A side-benefit is that this type is much quieter than the old one. The mar on our afternoon was that I noticed the mainsail has a tear near the head and I will need to spend some time repairing that before we sail again.

We plan to sail toward New York City on Friday, hopefully getting through there this weekend. Weather gods, please cooperate
