Christmas day on Hilton Head

We spent Christmas in Savannah, GA, and what a lovely town! We had a terrific day with Sylvia’s college chum, Carl and his wife Wendy. Carl works at SCAD (Savannah College of Art & Design) as a professor in the film school. They showed us around Savannah, Bonaventure Cemetery, and the film school’s “back lot,” culminating with a wonderful dinner at Ukiyo, a very nice Japanese restaurant in Savannah.

My oldest daughter, Piper flew in for a visit, arriving on Christmas Eve. We rented a car and took advantage of it, touring around to see the local sights — Hilton Head Island, Tybee Island, Telfair Museums, restaurants and shops.

On Thursday night when we arrived home, a police officer came down the dock. I asked what was up and he said that there was a call about a person in the water (the 57-degree water). I grabbed a headlamp and helped to search for the person. Turned out that there was a person in the water and he’d been there a while — alive, still. The fire department showed up and I made myself scarce to not be in the way. The next morning, I talked to Dean, a marina employee, and asked if he was aware of the status of the person from last night. He said “you mean me?” Doh! He misstepped and fell off the dock; luckily, his phone stayed on the dock and he had an iWatch to call for help. All’s well that ends well.
I dropped Piper off at the airport very early this morning and we left Savannah in a pouring rainstorm. We had a rainy, foggy journey this morning and clear skies to an anchorage near Sapelo Sound this afternoon.

Sounds like a lovely holiday. Hopefully we can catch up with you guys at some point. I can’t remember where you plan to land. Bahamas? We are currently in Jensen Beach until we cross over.
