Splash Down!

It has been a packed 8 days since I last posted but my silence has been for good reason. The weekend before last I finished the bottom paint, a big job. However, there needed to be a few more things done before Sans Souci was ready to splash. Absolutely critical was getting the feathering prop serviced, greased and painted with anti foul which I described last week. Since then, I have also polished and waxed the topsides (Water line up to deck). It was a shoulder killer of a job as I had to use polish first, then wax with a buffer. Note on buffing the wax: I figured out that I could use my random orbital sander with Costco microfiber rags instead of a polisher with a wool pad and it was much easier. Of course I figured this out with about 15% of the boat left to complete!

All shiny and ready for launch

Last week I figured out the WiFi system on board and was able to test out working from the boat which thankfully is productive. I also spent time continuing the organization and stowing items project. These things were not necessary to complete in order to launch the boat but it needs to be done soon anyway.

Had time to bend on the staysail

This brings us to today’s excitement- splashing Sans Souci. I arrived at the yard at about 7:30 for work and the crew were already taking the boat ahead of Sans Souci to launch. I didn’t have to wait long before they returned for us. It’s an interesting process which I documented and posted below.

Almost there

Finally in the water!

Happily tied up at her temporary slip

Next up for us is having the sails delivered to the boat, the previous owner is going to help me get the engine and other systems running, and then the sea trial and in water survey. I have the surveyor scheduled for Thursday and the weather looks promising!
