All Journeys Start Where You Are

How do you know where to start documenting your journey when you are already over 50 years into it? For now, I’m going to start with the decision to actively pursue The Dream. It was almost exactly 2 years ago, as Sylvia and I walked around Bde Mka Ska in Minneapolis on a warm March day talking about future plans that I blurted out that my dream was to move to a sailboat and spend my free time sailing and exploring. Sylvia, ever the encourager, even early in our relationship as we were, wanted to explore more deeply what that life would look like. This was the moment when it moved from some vague dream to one day do this to something that felt much more concrete, something attainable in the next few years.

I am going to use this space to try something very new to me. I’m going to document my move from land-locked, midwestern dad  to sailor, cruiser and hopefully one day, circumnavigator. There is a lot to say about what has already transpired that I want to get down in these pages but I am 5 weeks from the next big step, The Move, and that will take much of my attention. Stay tuned.

Fair winds,
Hugh
